The Topology and Control Performance Analysis of a Novel Five-Level Power Converter for SRM

This article proposes a novel five-level power converter to improve the output performance of three-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive systems. Compared with traditional five-level converters, this power converter greatly reduces the number of switching tubes and simplifies the driving system. An improved current chopping control (CCC) method is proposed by combining new operating modes. In addition, the converter also achieves direct instantaneous torque control (DITC), which can reduce torque ripple. The effectiveness of the proposed topology and control method was evaluated through experimental verification under different working conditions. The results show that compared with traditional asymmetric half-bridge (AHB) power converters, the proposed converter structure can lead to a reduction in torque ripple by up to 33.02%. Furthermore, efficiency tests indicate an improvement in system efficiency by up to 13.16%.
