Pluggable Single-Mode Chip-Chip Connections Using Facet-Attached Microlenses and Passive Mechanical Joints

We demonstrate low-loss single-mode chip-chip connections that combine pluggable mechanical joining ele-ments with 3D-printed facet-attached microlenses (FaML). Our approach opens a path to flexible and simple assembly of photonic multi-chip assemblies without the need for high-precision alignment equipment.
