Generating and Testing Binary Random Sequences for Classified Information Protection Systems

Binary random sequences are the basic material used to produce cryptographic keys, which are an essential factor guaranteeing the security of cryptographic algorithms and protocols used for information protection. We expect that discrete elements in a random sequence are uniformly distributed - the probability of appearing each of them is the same. In addition, random processes resulting in these sequences should be unpredictable. Binary random sequences can be obtained from hardware sources of randomness with proven stochastic properties. Truly random sequences produced by hardware random number generators are mainly used in cryptographic key management systems operating for the protection of classified information. This paper presents solutions for generating and testing truly random sequences.
