TLA+ Specification of Aviation System with Time Analysis

In aviation systems, ensuring the safety and reliability of systems which are complex is of utmost importance. Safety-critical systems, which are also very relevant in the aviation industry, comprise of those those whose malfunction or failure can lead to catastrophic consequences, including loss of human life, damage to environmental, and harm to the system itself. Therefore, such systems require rigorous analysis and verification methodologies to guarantee their dependability. Our paper explores an innovative approach to address the challenges that are associated with ensuring the safety and reliability of the system. It is aimed at leveraging Petri Nets for the time based analysis of aviation systems. Furthermore, we have extended this analysis to formal specification and verification using the TLA+ (Temporal Logic of Actions) tool. This approach overall allows us to model the aviation system’s temporal behavior, thereby enhancing our ability to identify potential risks and ensure the system’s reliability.
