VR Enabled Solar/Wind Microgrid for Enhanced Learning

This publication presents a pioneering initiative of establishing a virtual microgrid to bridge the educational divide and address energy challenges in rural communities. Leveraging virtual reality (VR), and energy management systems (EMS), the virtual microgrid integrates renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, virtual control station, and interactive learning student labs. Adoption of Virtual reality in learning environments can help facilitate teaching and learning in environments which are not physically accessible to students and teachers. Through immersive virtual interactions, students and community members in remote areas access enriched educational experiences and interactive simulations. This paper showcases the successful implementation of a virtual microgrid, highlighting its transformative impact on education and rural development. It sheds light on the technical aspects of the virtual microgrid, the design of immersive learning experiences, and the socio-economic benefits achieved. The lessons learned and best practices shared in this study can serve as a valuable guide for similar initiatives globally, empowering communities, and promoting equitable access to education and energy for sustainable development.
