Qcrypt: Leveraging Post-Quantum Cryptography for Enhanced Security of Data at Rest

The cryptographic landscape is undergoing a significant transformation with the integration of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms. In today’s interconnected world, securing data at rest using quantum-resistant algorithms that employ highly random keys is crucial. It is also imperative to securely manage these keys throughout their lifecycle using a robust Key Management System (KMS). This study identifies the threats to current cryptographic infrastructure, explores potential solutions, and introduces an innovative approach to developing a practical encryption tool with an integrated KMS. This tool is designed to protect data using existing PQC algorithms, facilitate the transition from classical cryptographic algorithms to PQC, and be easily upgradable to incorporate any future NIST-approved algorithms. The tool was evaluated for time taken and data flow within the network on various file types and sizes.
