Dynamics of Scour Depth Prediction and Pier Strength Assessment Utilizing Piezoelectric Sensor Data in Riverine Environments

Scour refers to the process of erosion or removal of sediment, such as sand or soil, from the riverbed around the piers. This can occur due to the force of flowing water, especially in areas with strong currents. Scouring around piers is a common concern in civil engineering and bridge design, as excessive scour can undermine the stability of the structure. Engineers use mathematical models and formulas to predict the potential depth of scour around piers based on factors like flow velocity and sediment characteristics. Structures such as riprap (large rocks), scour aprons, or other erosion-resistant materials may be used to protect piers from excessive scour. In this proposed work, piezo electric sensors used to measure the scour depth around piers in a river. The real time datas are collected through sensors and processed through Arduino UNO board. The collected data are processed at remote end and necessary decisions can be taken. Using this monitoring system the strength of the pillars of a bridge is ananlysed and accidents can be prevented.
