Voltage Controlled Oscillator for Bluetooth and WiFi Applications with 22nm Technology

This paper provides a detailed description of a CMOS Ring VCO (Voltage-Controlled Oscillator) that has been improved for use in wireless communication systems such as Bluetooth and WiFi. A voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is an essential component of wireless transceivers because it controls the signal frequency, which allows for clock generation, phase—locked loops, and optimised signal modulation in frequency and phase. The design of the chip scale monolithic ring VCO was centred around three key elements: simplicity, ease of manufacture on a chip scale, and performance flexibility. It is important to minimise power consumption to a minimum, access a higher frequency scale, and maintain absolutely accurate values when designing.
