Research on Target Strength Characteristics of Multihighlights Model for Linear Array Acoustic Decoys

The spatial distribution characteristics of the target strength of the traditional multihighlight model are not evidently consistent with the variation law of the submarine target “butterfly figure.” There is a significant difference between the simulated model data and the measured submarine data. To address this problem, our study proposes an amplitude simulation method of target echo signal by introducing an equivalent radius scaling factor and random variables in the multihighlight model to improve the target echo signal simulation's fidelity of the linear-scale acoustic decoy in terms of target strength. The simulation results show that the improved multihighlight model is more consistent with the butterfly-shaped feature of target strength with azimuth variations. Simultaneously, the improved model reflects the uncertainty of multiple measurements at the same azimuth. This research provides a reference for implementing the simulation of target echo in linear array acoustic decoys and related fields in terms of fidelity.
