Research on Micro Defect Detection of GIS Basin Insulators Based on Photon Counting Measurement

In order to detect and early-warn GIS equipment pot insulators, this paper proposes a new defect detection method based on counting and analyzing photon release information under the influence of defects. By preparing pot insulator samples with defects such as scratches, surface burrs, and metal particles, photon counting results before the onset of partial discharge of the samples under AC voltage excitation were obtained. The results show that the photon counting results under defect induction showed a 12-fold increase compared to the case without defects, and the photon counting results were significantly correlated with the type, size, location, and insulating gas of the defects. In summary, this paper points out that photon counting can be used as an effective means to detect latent defects in GIS equipment.
