Application of Protocol Conversion Technology in the Process of Fault Recording Information Collection

Currently, low-resistance grounding protection is used on over 3897 transmission lines within the supply district of Shi-nan Power Supply Company. In this instance, it is hard to locate the fault when the reclosing of protection acted successfully. To reduce the fault's scope, data recorded by a computerized protection device is needed to be transferred for fault analysis. It is necessary to use protocol conversion technology to convert the communication protocol in order to collect the fault recording files in the protection devices, though, because a large amount of imported protection devices use the self-customized communication protocols by the manufacturers, which differ from the protocols used by domestic protection devices. Nevertheless, the fault recording instruments are solely presented in power stations with voltage levels of 110kV and higher, thus failing to comprehensively cover all voltage levels in the near future. This paper presents the utilization of a general protocol analysis technology in developing an integrated analysis platform for various communication protocols. By analyzing and converting various protocol formats into COMTRADE format, the power supply company has the ability to gather fault recording files from all the protection devices independently.
