The Performance Analysis of 5-Level DC-AC Converter with Level Shifted PWM Techniques

This paper introduces a novel reduced-count 5-level DC-AC converter topology designed for applications of medium voltage and high-power. The proposed topology comprises a single cell of Conventional CHB MLI, utilized for polarity generation, and a diode switch combination for level generation. it is extendable topology like a CHB MLI with reduced count of switches. A new metric called the index switch requirement ratio (SRR) is introduced to determine the cost-reduction of the proposed topology compared to existing CHB MLI topologies for L levels. Level shift pulse width modulation techniques are employed for generating firing pulses in the proposed topology. The performance assessment of the proposed topology is conducted through the analysis of total harmonic distortion (THD) using level shift PWM techniques, including Phase Disposition (PD), Phase Opposition Disposition (POD), and Alternate Phase Opposition Disposition (APOD) PWM, with different amplitude modulation indexes. The finding highlighted that proposed topology outperforms in PD PWM techniques.
