Boosting Grid Power Transmission Capacity and Reactive Power Compensation using renewable energy sources with an Electric Spring Governed by a Fuzzy Logic Controller

Solar farms typically experience periods of downtime during the night and do not operate at full capacity during the early hours of the F.N session and late in the A.N session, leading to the underuse of this expensive infrastructure. This research presents a novel method that transforms the inverter of a transforming a photovoltaic solar farm into a Static STATCOM, creating what is called a Photovoltaic Solar Static Synchronous Compensator-based Electric Spring. This innovation aims with the aim of boosting the stability and enhancing the power transfer efficiency of the interconnected transmission network. To achieve this, the study utilizes a fuzzy controller, chosen for its ability to mimic human-like decisionmaking in managing electronic systems, thereby offering expert-level operational insights. The application of a fuzzy controller to nonlinear systems effectively reduces the uncertain effects on control systems and enhances operational efficiency. Simulation outcomes show that employing a PV solar farm in this innovative way can significantly enhance the capacity for power transmission without the necessity for additional, expensive infrastructure including series or shunt capacitors, or independent controllers for flexible AC transmission systems
