Real Time Battery Monitoring and Protection System with CAN Bus Communication and Data Logging

The focus of this paper is on developing a battery protection system using a Control Area Network (CAN) and MCP2515 controller. The protection system is designed to monitor and regulate the voltage, current and temperature of the battery, and provide protection against overcharging, over-discharging, surge current protection and overheating. The MCP2515 controller is used to interface the CAN and the battery protection circuitry, enabling efficient communication between the components. The system is tested using a prototype battery pack, and the results demonstrate that the CAN-based battery protection system is effective in maintaining the battery's health and prolonging its lifespan. The innovative solution to battery protection proposed here can be used in a variety of applications, including electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and portable electronics.
