Impact of Different Types of Distributed Sources on Protection Coordination on Distribution Grid

Integration of distributed energy sources from renewable energy into the distribution grid is one of the solutions that contribute to promoting sustainable energy development. However, integrating a significant amount of distributed energy sources into the distribution grid can affect the operation of the old grid’s protection system. This paper studies and evaluates the effects of distributed energy sources on the coordination of fuses and reclosers in a typical radial distribution network at different penetration levels, thereby proposing simple and effective solutions to re-coordinate the protection devices.
