M-Bot: Bridging the Gap in Mine Safety for Non-Literate Workers through Multilingual chatbots Assistance

Due to India’s complicated geology and mountainous geography, synoptic-scale systems and severe weather events like thunderstorms can cause typhoons, earthquakes, and heavy rains, worsening disasters. This threatens public safety, particularly in dangerous sectors like mining. Despite the efforts of regulating authorities like the Bureau of Miners, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, illiteracy and a lack of trust in obtaining necessary information keep many mining workers uninformed of industry regulations and practices. We propose an M-Bot, or Mining Bot, to improve mine safety literacy among illiterate mining personnel. M-Bot makes mining information and recommendations available in local languages, decreasing catastrophe risks and encouraging prevention. M-Bot helps users learn about mining legislation, safety measures, and emergency procedures so they can make educated choices and protect themselves. M-Bot is a potential way to promote safety literacy among Indian mining workers, as this abstract shows. M-Bot can improve mining safety and sustainability by offering information and assistance in local languages.
