AI-MEFDES: AI-based Multi-class Early Fire Detection and Extinguishing System

This paper presents an implementation of deep learning-based Multi-class Early Fire Detection and Extinguishing System on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin development kit as an enabler of future's smart cities buildings. We use YOLOv5 (You Only Look Once version 5) and Adafruit python libraries to implement detection and extinguishing system. A USB web-based camera is connected to Jetson AGX to take real-time video. Two servo motors are used to control the camera and targeting nozzles' tilt and pan. The motors are connected with Jetson AGX using Adafruit PCA9685 16-Channel Servo Driver interface. The developed system is tested in the lab and the college's annual project competition shows more than 80% accuracy.
