Design of an active seat suspension based on a Scott-Russell mechanism

The paper presents a design of a high-stiffness high-cost active seat suspension to be used in laboratory environment as an upgrade to an existing car seat shaker test rig. The performance results of the designed system would serve as a benchmark for the future proposed cost-effective designs of active seat suspensions intended to be used in a mid-class passenger vehicle. Dimensions and operational capabilities of the designed system correspond with the requirements on the available volume within the intended vehicle type. The overall system is designed as a combination of four subsystems; carrier based on Scott-Russell mechanism, actuator based on a spindle powered by rotational servomotor, torsional spring, and adjustable damper.
