Ripple Correlation Control for a Low-Cost Single-Stage Photovoltaic Water Pumping System

In this paper, an integrated control algorithm is presented for a low-cost single-stage photovoltaic water pumping system. The pump is driven by a brushless DC motor, controlled in the three-phase conduction mode. The integrated control algorithm includes the maximum power point tracking and the third harmonic injection PWM techniques. While the MPPT ensures the extraction of the maximum available power from the PV panels, the third harmonic injection PWM carries out the switching action of the BLDCM drive. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed technique reduces torque ripple by approximately 60% when compared to the conventional method with an equal number of drive components.
