A Review of Modeling and Control of Multi-Phase Induction Motors Under Machine Faults

Multi-phase induction machines have attracted significant research attention in recent years due to the notable advantages they have over their standard three-phase counterparts. Particularly, their ability to continue functioning in the event of machine failure without requiring inverter modification has sparked considerable interest. This paper presents an overview of the state-of-the-art developments in post-fault control strategies for multi-phase induction machines, as documented in the literature. The investigation delves into various modelling approaches for the configuration of multi-phase machines. Additionally, it explores post-fault control methodologies utilising field-oriented control (FOC) and model predictive control (MPC). Furthermore, Section IV discusses the comparison between carrier-based PWM and space vector PWM techniques. In conclusion, this paper identifies areas within the field that warrant further investigation.
