Pilot Implementation of Efficient Automation in Sericulture Farms Using Internet of Things (IoT)

The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in sericulture, or silk farming, has the potential to significantly enhance the efficiency and output of silk production. Traditional methods, such as manual monitoring and environmental control (referred to as Manual Sericulture Management or MSM), have limited the industry’s productivity due to their labor-intensive nature and inability to precisely control the rearing environment. This paper introduces the SeriFarm Automation System (SFAS), an IoT-based automation framework designed to overcome these challenges. SFAS utilizes cutting-edge sensors and control systems to provide precise environmental conditions, automated feeding mechanisms, and real-time health monitoring of silkworms. Compared to Manual Sericulture Management (MSM), SFAS demonstrates a remarkable improvement in silk yield and quality, with preliminary results showing up to a $0.40 \%$ increase in silk production and a $0.25 \%$ improvement in labor efficiency. By addressing the key limitations of MSM, SFAS offers a sustainable, scalable, and significantly more productive approach to sericulture, paving the way for a new era in silk farming.
