Spectrally Efficient Approach of Wavelength Conversion Employing Non-Linearity and Polarized Multiplexing

Wavelength converters is a crucial element in optical communication networks. It plays a climacteric role in enhancing signal quality, enabling seamless data transmission, allowing faster transmission, and providing greater bandwidth. These Wavelength converters can be mileage by using fiber nonlinearities, Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) nonlinearities, Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) nonlinearities, etc. Polarization multiplexing has emerged as a promising approach to wavelength conversion, leveraging the unique characteristics of polarized light to manipulate signals effectively. In this study, a design and performance evaluation of a wavelength converter employing polarization multiplexing was proposed. The implementation and simulation were carried out using the OptiSystem software. The proposed wavelength converter capitalizes on the unique properties of polarization multiplexing for achieving efficient and tunable optical wavelength conversion. The design process encompasses the meticulous selection of optical components within the OptiSystem environment, such as polarization-sensitive elements, modulators, and detectors. Performance evaluation metrics, including conversion efficiency, signal quality, bit error rate, and quality factor of the signal, were comprehensively analyzed through extensive simulations in the OptiSystem software.
