Detection of Cyber-Attacks on the SMART GRID Using an Unknown Input Observer

The present work proposes an innovative method for detecting cyber-attacks in cyber-physical systems, focusing particularly on smart energy distribution networks. By utilizing unknown input observers, traditionally used for fault detection, this approach offers a promising solution to enhance the security of these systems against the growing threats of False Data Injection Attacks (FDIA). The proposed algorithm is based on the utilization of a bank of Luenberger-type unknown input observers. Simulations conducted in Matlab demonstrate the effectiveness of these attack detection and isolation algorithms, thus highlighting the significance of this contribution in safeguarding critical infrastructures.
