Security Assessment of IoT Devices: A Contemporary Survey

There has been a sudden spurt of the IoT devices like smart phones, smart watches etc owing to the progress in the field of telecommunications marked by introduction of 5G. These devices interact with the user in a more humane way which have led to their wide adoption all over the world providing different facilities like communication, entertainment, banking, e-commerce etc. The large scale usage of the devices has also led to adversaries targeting these devices leading to loss of data, money and life. This brings the requirement of the evaluation of the IoT devices from the security perspective. This paper gives a survey of the security analysis techniques of the IoT devices from all possible dimensions mainly focusing on the traffic analysis aspect. Recent papers from 2015 onwards have been surveyed which deal with various techniques and methodology for the traffic analysis of the IoT Devices. Finally, it is believed that this survey paper will add to the continuous investigation in the field of IoT device security analysis and generate interest in the present crop of researchers in this field.
