Principal Component Method as Detection of Defects in an Electronic Unit

The article describes a method for detecting visual unacceptance for electronic assemblies. To be able to compete in the market in their segment, manufacturers of radio-electronic equipment and devices strive for compactness and high technology. As a result, production uses radioelements in housings 0603 (1.6 mm by 0.85 mm) and 0402 (1 mm by 0.5 mm). This development in instrument making leads to an increase in the percentage of defects due to assembly and the complication of finding the cause of the defect. To improve the search for inconsistencies in defective products, an information-measuring system for searching for unacceptance in electronic assemblies in an electronic unit is proposed. A special feature of the system is the method of information processing using the principal component method. In the electronic unit are defined control nodes. A test signal is supplied and the voltage versus time dependence is recorded at the nodes. The measurements are processed using special software and transformed through the program Statistica to obtain the coordinates of constructing points in the space of principal components. A new space is constructed with the obtained coordinates. Based on calculations of the distance between points in the space of principal components, a conclusion is made about the presence of a defect.
