Methods of Code Generation for Data Exchange Module between Electronic Control Units of Highly Automated Vehicles Using Ethernet

The development of modern highly automated vehicles (HAVs) is a long and expensive process. One of its stages is the design of a data transmission subsystem between the vehicle's hardware units. Requirements are growing not only for throughput, but also for the ease of use of the interface when developing, testing and upgrading HAVs. A promising approach is the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools to automate the process of generating data exchange code for embedded software of electronic control units. This allows to minimize cost, reduce the likelihood of design errors, and increase overall architectural flexibility. This article describes an approach to speed up the design of a data exchange subsystem for HAVs by developing CAD elements for code fragments generation of data transfer software between electronic control units. The flexibility of the designed subsystem is ensured by using one of the most common Ethernet standards, IEEE 802.3u, as the physical layer of the communication interface. To confirm the success of the proposed approach, the results of the development was used to design a universal kit for converting vehicles to operate in autonomous control mode. This kit was used to automate the UAZ Patriot car. The article will be of interest to specialists in the field of robotics and unmanned vehicle technologies interested in developing flexible and easily scalable control systems.
