Hangar System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Autonomous Missions

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become an important component in a wide spectrum of applications. The diverse usages range from the inspection of industrial plants or the monitoring of agricultural fields and forests to search and rescue missions in the mountains or in seas and open standing waters. These missions are often carried out automatically and without human assistance. The UAV must be positioned close to the mission area and be always ready for use. For this purpose, the UAV is placed within a UAV hangar. In this paper, various hangar-based autonomous UAV missions are presented as well as a case study in the field of water rescue with a decentralized adaptable and automated UAV hangar, which can be fully integrated into the search and rescue process.
