Detection Probability and Rate Tradeoff in MIMO-OFDM ISAC System With Imperfect Channel Information

This paper investigates the probability of detection (PD) and rate tradeoff for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) based on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthog-onal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) framework with multi-beam. In particular, we consider a superposition model where sensing signal and communication signal occupy non-overlapping OFDM sub carriers. Sensing signal is used as pilots such that the detection is carried out over channel estimations. We derive the theoretical expression for PD and consider the performance tradeoff against average capacity lower bound. The performance tradeoff between sensing and communication system as influenced by beamforming and subcarrier power allocation is then characterized and contextualized through simulations.
