Cloud Battery Management System Development

Batteries are vital in many modern applications, from portable electronic devices to electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Its correct operation is essential to guarantee safety, optimized performance, energy efficiency, and reduced costs over time. To this end, the BMS (Battery Management System) plays a fundamental role as it performs cell monitoring, state estimation, load balancing, thermal control, and charge and discharge control activities. However, these devices' low processing and data storage capacity are significant limitations. To solve this problem, a new hardware and software approach has been developed and used in management systems, such as the cloud BMS. In this new architecture, processing power and data storage capacity availability grows exponentially. This work presents the development of a hardware and software solution for a cloud BMS, based on the ESP32 IoT module. A board was built for this, and a software system using the AWS IoT platform was implemented. After discharging a 48 V battery bank, the voltage, current, and temperature parameter monitoring functionality was verified.
