The influence of cutting parameters of the chip-breaking groove tool on cutting deformation

Using ABAQUS finite element software, a 3D cutting simulation model for titanium alloy was established to investigate the effects of changes in the cutting parameters of a zigzag chip breaker tool on chip deformation during machining. It was found that the degree of chip deformation is negatively correlated with the tool rake angle and chip breaker groove depth, and positively correlated with the tool back rake angle. The influence of cutting parameters on chip deformation was determined to follow the order: groove depth > tool rake angle > tool back rake angle. When the tool rake angle is set to 11.55°, the back rake angle to 36.42°, and the groove depth to 0.131 mm, significant chip deformation was observed, resulting in better chip breaking performance.
