Applications of JPSS Data to Global Environmental Monitoring and Plans for New Low Earth Orbit Missions

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Joint Polar Satellite System's (JPSS) latest satellite, NOAA21, has been declared operational. It joins the mission's two previous satellites in orbit, NOAA20 and Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP), continuing to provide critical Earth observations for several applications including weather prediction, disaster monitoring, and climate studies. NOAA has begun formulating the next generation of weather satellites in low Earth orbit starting with a series of microwave sounders.
