Cache Based Side-Channel Attacks: A Survey

This survey examines the diverse mitigation strategies that have been applied to the cloud infrastructure in order to fortify it against cache-based side-channel attacks. We categorizes strategies into: hypervisor-based, hardware-based, and two-stage defense methods. Different classifications provide unique approaches to mitigate these vulnerabilities. The study thoroughly examines their results, encompassing precision, efficiency, and potential ramifications for cloud systems. In addition, the survey examines the inter dependencies among these solutions, highlighting the necessity for operating system or hypervisor modifications to ensure optimal functionality. The study primarily focuses on analyzing the false-positive rates of these solutions. The survey's objective is to provide a thorough examination of cache-based side-channel attack defences, including their effectiveness, dependencies, and potential impact on cloud performance and security. To further enhance security, we additionally suggested countermeasures against these assaults.
