Intelligent Waste Management System: RFID-Activated Smart Dustbin with Moisture Analysis

One of the primary problem that the world faces irrespective of a developed or developing country is due to poor waste management. The problem caused due to improper waste management is the overflowing of the waste in dustbin which causes various hazards such as bad odour & ugliness to that place which may be the root cause for spread of various diseases. In the wake of Swachh Bharat (Clean India), there is a need for an efficient and technologically advanced solution to address the challenges of waste management in urban and rural areas across India. To overcome this issue, a smart garbage management system has been developed. The main objective of the project is to design a smart dustbin that will keep our environment clean and hygienic. The project aims to design a smart dustbin that manages dry and wet waste using Arduino. The system consists of Arduino microcontroller (ATmega328), raindrop moisture sensor, servo motor, Bluetooth module and 2 Ultrasonic sensors. The Ultrasonic sensor is used to detect the level of waste collected which will help to prevent the overflowing of waste and will help to keep the surroundings clean, odourless and will look nice. The raindrop moisture sensor helps us segregate wet and dry waste, which is then thrown at the respective compartment by a flap which is rotated with the help of all servo motor. We have used Bluetooth module (HC05) for transferring data to the user so that the credits are received. Android application is developed where the user will be able to see their credit score once they use the dustbin. We have created a credit system to encourage people to put the waste near them in the dustbin and earn credits. The credits can be further used by the organizations such as Residential society, colleges, officers, etc. to award or appreciate the person with the highest credits.
