Hybrid-Loop Antenna for Dual-Band Wi-Fi Applications in Mobile Tablet Computers

A dual-band hybrid-loop antenna is proposed for Wi-Fi 6/6E applications in mobile tablet computers. In the proposed antenna, a mu-near-zero (MNZ) segmented loop and a parasitic folded-loop are placed on opposite sides of the substrate. The total antenna, within a planar structure of 64.75mm × 5mm, is placed in a tablet computer with full metal housing. By adjusting the effective permeability of segmented loop through tuning the distributed capacitors, the 0^th/1^st/2^nd/3^rd modes of the segmented loop are compressed to achieve a broad bandwidth from 5.15 GHz to 7.15 GHz. Combining with the 2.39-2.49 GHz mode supported by the parasitic folded-loop, the proposed antenna satisfies the Wi-Fi 6/6E bands, targeting communication applications in tablet terminals. Furthermore, the proposed antenna serves as a balanced structure, thereby exhibiting high robustness in practical applications such as different sizes of tablet computers or the impact of hands. The proposed design is presented in this paper with numerical simulation results.
