4×4 SIW Based Butler Matrix for Milimeter Wave applications

The present needs of the limited spectrum and the expected user/direction coverage are 5G. 5G bands are capable of supporting both the high data throughput and an extensive user. For 5G applications, a 4×4 Butler matrix with multibeam beamforming for radar applications is developed. In this study, a 4×4 butler matrix based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is for operation at 60 GHz. The design process includes the creation of a 90° hybrid coupler and crossover. The designed butler matrix is simulated with CST Studio and the results are verified with HFSS. The proposed butler matrix can be easily manufactured using standard methods for the manufacture of printed circuit boards.
