A Two-Port Implantable Antenna for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer for IMDs

In this paper, a compact two-port implantable antenna is proposed for simultaneous biotelemetry and power transfer. The proposed antenna consists of a loop element operating at 433 MHz (Port 1) for wireless power transfer and a dual-band patch element operating at 915 MHz and 2.45 GHz (Port 2) for biotelemetry. The proposed antenna has a compact size (18 × 18 × 1.27 mm³) and is implanted at a depth of 40 mm in a muscle box. The proposed antenna exhibits a fractional bandwidth of 67.17 %, 5.76 %, 7.82 % at 433 MHz, 915 MHz, 2.45 GHz respectively. The proposed antenna demonstrates satisfactory performance in terms of isolation, gain patterns and specific absorption rate (SAR).
