Motion Simulation and Force Analysis of a CFD-based DP Vessel under Environmental Interference

In this study, based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the motion simulation of a dynamic positioning (DP) vessel model is carried out in view of the uncertainty of vessel motion. For the influence of external wave interference forces on vessel motion, a CFD method is proposed to simulate the change of a DP vessel's six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) motion, and the change rules of each degree of freedom under different wave angles are obtained. Aiming at the uncertainty of the DP vessel's motion resistance change at low speed under the sea conditions of level 3 ∼ 5, a prediction algorithm based on BP neural network is proposed to introduce into the scale model. At the same time, the influence and change of yaw angle and heave in this environment and the feasibility of scale model in simulation are studied. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the prediction algorithm. The changing patterns and predictive data of vessel motion are helpful for DP vessel heading control and the design of pressure-type special materials. This study has important engineering and practical significance.
