Channel Measurement Based on Ray Tracing Calibration and Analysis for Inland River Environment

Ship-shore communication plays an important role in the construction of waterway intelligent transportation system. This paper analyzes the impact of typical objects in the vicinity of the inland river bridge on the propagation of electromagnetic waves at 5.9 GHz band, aiming to explore the channel characteristics for the inland river environment. Based on actual measurement data on the inland waterway, the main multipath components are tracked using ray tracing simulation results and matched with objects in the real environment to calibrate the electromagnetic parameters. Moreover, the calibration process reveals the effects of typical objects (e.g., riverbanks, water surfaces, buildings, bridges) on the channel of the inland river. On the basis of calibration, the channel characteristics are extracted and analyzed using ray tracing simulation. Through analysis of channel characteristics such as received power, delay spread, and Ricean K-factor, this study provides essential insights into understanding the channel conditions for the inland river environment.
