Circular and Linearly Polarized High Gain Scalar Holographic Metasurface Antenna for mm-wave Application

A highly directive, low-profile, scalar holographic metasurface based leaky-wave antenna (HMSLWA) with linear and circularly polarized (LP and CP) radiation is proposed in this work. To realize a CP radiation from proposed HMS, a novel progressive phase is multiplied with linearly polarized impedance profile. Proposed full structured CP HMS gives highly directive single beam radiation, while a center nulled beam is obtained from full structured LP HMS. An external phase correction factor (PCF) is introduced to remove the center null effect from linearly polarized beam. A maximum gain of ≈ 25dB and ≈ 24dB is obtained from proposed CP and LP HMS towards (θ, φ)=(0°, 0°). Simulated 2D gain pattern with axial ratio plots for CP beam HMS is discussed here.
