Design of Traction Control System on Electric Motorcycles Using Gain-Scheduled PID Controller

Traction control system (TCS) is widely acknowledged for its contribution to enhancing the safety and performance of vehicles. This paper specifically focuses on the development of TCS customized specifically for electric motorcycles. The study introduces a Gain - Scheduled PID controller design approach for the TCS, which adjusts the gain automatically based on various operating conditions. These conditions include the longitudinal speed and mass of the electric motorcycles. The estimation of the gradient is required to maintain optimal tractive force which is used to determine the reference slip ratio for the TCS. The proposed method is simulated using Matlab/Simulink. The Gain-Scheduled PID (GS PID) controller algorithm shows remarkable improvements in safety and acceleration ability than no controller and PID controller as a baseline.
