Modeling and Simulation of Solar Energy MPPT for Arduino Using Proteus Software

This article initiates photovoltaic (PV) modeling and simulates implementation of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for solar energy panels using an Arduino UNO R3 board in the PROTEUS software. The model depicts a solar panel as a light intensity and temperature dependent current source connected in parallel with a diode and resistor Rph, followed by a shunt resistor Rsh. The Arduino controller is programmed to control a boost circuit that seeks the maximum power point using the incremental conductance (INC) and perturb and observe (P&O) methods, which are simulated in the PROTEUS software to prove the efficacy of the PV model. The simulation results show that the proposed method has been successful in simulating solar panels and is capable of finding the maximum power point by using PROTEUS software. This result will be an address to compare the results for researchers in the future.
