Design and Implementation of a Web Application Firewall System based on OpenResty

As the Internet technology continues to evolve, the variety and number of Web application services are proliferating, leading to increasingly severe network security issues. To address the security challenges of Web application services, this paper designed and implemented a Web Application Firewall (WAF) system based on OpenResty. The system analyzes and processes application layer traffic and effectively identifies and intercepts various malicious attacks through multiple protection modules. Furthermore, this paper proposed a novel plugin-based deployment method, implementing the WAF system as a plugin to carry out its protective functions. The effectiveness and feasibility of the Web Application Firewall system designed and implemented in this paper are validated through experimental verification. The experimental results indicate that by utilizing technologies such as the OpenResty framework and plug-in deployment, the system not only provides effective protection for Web applications but also addresses the limitations in protection performance and functionality found in existing firewall systems. Furthermore, the overall concurrency of the WAF system can reach up to 20,000.
