A 2.5V 200mA CMOS Low-Dropout Voltage Regulator with Robust PVT

The paper proposes a high-precision, low-noise, and PVT-robust low-dropout voltage regulator (LDOVR) for systems on chips (SOCs). The LDOVR features a bandgap reference circuit, an error amplifier, a power output stage, and a startup circuit. The error amplifier achieves high gain and stability by employing a Miller capacitor with a zeroing resistor for frequency compensation, ensuring a phase margin above 65° across various process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) conditions. The proposed LDOVR is designed and implemented in a 55nm CMOS process. Simulation results demonstrate that with an input voltage range of 2.6-4V (typically 3.3V), the output voltage is 2.5V with fluctuations within 8.6mV, corresponding to a voltage error of less than 0.25%. The quiescent current is below 120μA, and the LDOVR can drive loads exceeding 200mA. Over a wide temperature range from −55°C to 125°C, the LDOVR shows a temperature coefficient better than 7.38 ppm/°C. When the load current is 200mA, the LDOVR maintains a phase margin above 72.7° and a power supply rejection ratio greater than 42dB at 10KHz. The LDOVR occupies a very compact core size of 0.034 mm² and a total silicon area of 0.14 mm² including all testing pads.
