Modified Pattern Multiplication Approach for Phased Arrays

For precise beam analysis of a radiating phased array, it is essential to account for mutual coupling and array edge effect. However, the traditional pattern multiplication principle neglects the mutual coupling effect. By incorporating knowledge of the active element pattern (AEP), we propose a modified pattern multiplication approach that includes compensations for mutual coupling and edge effect. This modified approach enables rapid computation of the radiation characteristics of phased arrays. Numerical example demonstrates the validity and accuracy of this method.
