Overview of Various Carbon Neutral Energy Storage Solutions, Supporting Grid Stability

Renewable energy systems have gained popularity in recent years due to its well-proven technology. One of the most important challenges with intermittent energy is stability during periods of low grid activity. This paper describes the importance of stability aspect of a grid, having dominating feed from variable renewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources, however, carry uncertainty, with intermittence and non-controllability of wind and solar energy. Research and innovations over the years have successfully introduced various control strategies and optimization methods for tackling with those limitations. Various environment-friendly energy storage systems are briefly discussed in this paper, together with their merits and limitations.
