Smart Docking System for Surveillance Cameras

This paper introduces an innovative concept: a smart docking system engineered to precisely align a camera holder containing a surveillance camera using a top plate fixture. Consisting of three crucial subsystems-the mechanical docking subsystem, the vision-based detection system, and the camera holder with the top plate fixture-this system presents an innovative solution. A crucial feature of this system is that it allows operators to align and dock between the camera holder and the top plate fixture without directly observing the process on the physical prototype. Instead, they rely on live images displayed on a remote monitor screen, comparing them with a reference image on the fixture prototype, while employing the most effective vision-based approach. This necessity arises from various application cases where docking control is conducted from elevated positions while the operator remains on the ground to mitigate height-related risks. By incorporating the smart docking system and the vision-based detection system, we investigate two proposed methodologies: Computer Vision I and Computer Vision II. Following rigorous assessment, we identify and incorporate the most efficient approach to enhance operator confidence and capability, thereby addressing potential concerns and uncertainties. Moreover, operators can hone their control proficiency through intensive training under engineer supervision and guidance, analyzing dynamic orientation measurement outcomes utilizing the Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) embedded within the system. This holistic approach ensures operators are adequately trained to navigate diverse scenarios proficiently.
