Acoustic Detection Methods for Rock Inhomogeneities and Their Application to Fracture Evaluation

Inhomogeneity is prevalent in underground rocks, and when the scale of the inhomogeneity of the rock around the wellhole (such as the fracture system generated by fracturing) is comparable to the wavelength of the acoustic wave, a strong scattered wave will be generated, so the inhomogeneity of the formation can be evaluated by the scattering effect of the acoustic logging. In this letter, the scattering effect of acoustic logging (especially dipole acoustic logging) in inhomogeneous formation is studied from the aspects of numerical simulation and data processing, and a method for evaluating rock inhomogeneity by scattering effect is proposed according to the attenuation characteristics of scattered waves, and the method is applied to the evaluation of fracturing effect in tight reservoirs.
