Detection Efficiency and Imaging Performance of a 25.4×25.4×24 mm3 Compton Cameras based on a Single Voxelized Scintillator.

This study demonstrated the enhancement of a Compton camera system through the expansion of the voxelized detector volume, aiming to increase its detection efficiency and reduce data acquisition times to reconstruct radiation sources. By doubling the size of the previous $4 \times 4 \times 4$ voxel detector $\left(12.6 \times 12.6 \times 12 \mathrm{~mm}^{3}\right)$ to an $8 \times 8 \times 8$ one $\left(25.4 \times 25.4 \times 24 \mathrm{~mm}^{3}\right)$, both the angular resolution and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were significantly improved. Simple back projection (SBP) and list mode maximum likelihood estimation method (LM-MLEM) were utilized for image reconstruction, and the expanded system showed a substantial decrease in measurement times up to a 40-times with equivalent image quality. This advancement makes significant improvement to deploy a lightweight and high-efficiency Compton cameras in unmanned measuring equipment, such as drones for various industrial applications.
