Introducing the New 1200 V CIPOS Maxi IM817 Intelligent Power Module for Motor Drive Applications

This paper presents Infineon’s new generation CIPOSTM 1200 V IM12BxxxC1 (old nomenclature: IM817) intelligent power modules (IPM) ranging up to 20 A in a dual in-line package with transfer molding. These IPMs can be for 3-phase AC motors and permanent magnet motors in variable speed motor drives applications. They combine the features of TRENCHSTOPTM IGBT7 S7 and emitter-controlled EC7 diodes with optimized silicon-on-insulator gate drivers and a direct copper bonding substrate. They offers the smallest package size with high power density. This paper provides an overview of the module as well as the technology behind the semiconductors, the electrical characteristics, the package, and the thermal performance.
