Detection and Study of HIF with the Help of Discrete Wavelet Transform in Distribution Lines

Electric distribution systems typically experience high-impedance faults. HIF happen when a broken conductor meets the ground or when a conductor comes into contact with a tree that has a high impedance. These flaws could put personnel's lives in danger by posing a fire risk and producing electric shock. Because of their low current magnitude, high-impedance faults (HIF) on distribution lines are missed by traditional relays. HIFs have low current consumption in addition to typical properties like unpredictability, nonlinearity, etc. that are comparable to the attributes of switching events like harmonic load switching. Because high- impedance faults increase the risk of electrical fires, continuous arcing, and insulation deterioration, it is imperative to identify and rectify these faults in order to preserve the dependability and safety of electrical power systems.
